Exhibition of old religious objects and open house Saturday and Sunday
To celebrate the parish’s 325th anniversary, an exceptional weekend has been organized for Saturday and Sunday, June 9 and 10, at the Basilica of Sainte-Anne de Varennes and the Sanctuary of Sainte-Marguerite d’Youville. On display inside the basilica will be dozens of antique religious objects, some dating back to the 1700s. On display will be items that have not been on view for over 50 years. “Digging through our archives and catacombs, we have selected some objects of great beauty. We’ve done research to discover the use or origin of some of them, and we’ve learned some very interesting things that we can’t wait to share,” says Natalie Parent, member of the 325th organizing committee and Varennes city councillor.
In addition to this special exhibition, parishioners and visitors will be able to enjoy a simultaneous open house at the Sanctuaire Sainte-Marguerite d’Youville. Guided tours will take them on the journey of the saint whose community played a key role in the development of healthcare from the days of New France to the present day.
