Along the river. Back in time.
A journey of heritage treasures and treasured history
Discover the history and architecture
Varennes – Boucherville
- Rich in heritage features
One day tour
The Varennes-Boucherville mini circuit offers three places to visit that highlight the richness of the religious heritage and the discovery of the work of a woman devoted to others, Marguerite d’Youville, the first Canadian named saint. The exhibition center dedicated to the latter is a good illustration of her career. Right next door, the Sainte-Anne Basilica (1887) is full of architectural and heritage features, just like its counterpart in Boucherville, where the Sainte-Famille church stands, which houses the most remarkable high altar in the province.
Meet surprising characters and objects
Longueuil – La Prairie
- Rich in heritage objects and historical figures
One day tour
In addition to the diversity of architectural styles on this mini-tour, it’s an invitation to discover characters, little-known historical elements and heritage objects, some of which date back to the origins of the Longueuil parish in 1697 and beyond! The tour includes the heritage site of the Sœurs des Saints Noms de Jésus et de Marie (museum, foundation house…) and the co-cathedral of Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue, its museum and the Marie-Rose chapel. In La Prairie, you’ll find the largest rural church in the Montreal diocese, close to the Musée archéologique du Roussillon, with its many original features.
Enchanting surroundings
Kahnawake – Châteauguay
- Rich in heritage sites
One day tour
This mini-tour is all about discovery, starting with a spectacular natural environment. It also delves into little-known parts of history, such as the Jesuit mission built in 1720, where you’ll find a wealth of native artifacts and the tomb of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, a young Amerindian woman canonized in 2012. This stop includes the church and interpretation center. The route continues to Île Saint-Bernard, the site of a seigneury purchased by Marguerite d’Youville to feed the sick and poor, among others. Here you’ll find a museum and one of the world’s oldest mills.
